About Potbelly

Potbelly Corporation is a rapidly expanding neighborhood sandwich concept that serves toasty warm sandwiches, unique salads, and other fresh menu items by engaging people in a Potbelly-branded setting.

Its mission is to make people truly happy and strive for improvement daily.

Over 300 stores are owned and operated by the company in the United States, and our franchisees operate over 20 stores in the United States, the Middle East, and the United Kingdom.

Potbelly History

In Chicago’s Lincoln Park area, Peter Hastings and his wife maintained an antique business.

This eccentric shop was doing well, but the motivated couple realized there was always room for improvement.

They began offering sandwiches to their interests, collecting clientele in 1977.

The small antique shop evolved into a popular lunchtime hangout for the locals with time. Customers enjoyed toasty warm sandwiches, homemade sweets, and live music in this unique ambiance, with lines stretching the door and around the corner.

Bryant Keil, a businessman, bought the original shop in 1996 and set out to spread the Potbelly love across the country by opening shops that had the same local atmosphere as the original.

Potbelly’s enchantment lives on today as a publicly traded corporation with over 400 neighborhood Potbelly Sandwich Shops worldwide.

Why Choose The Potbelly Franchise?

Upgraded Menu: Potbelly launched its enhanced menu in early 2019 and has seen great results due to the improved “shopability” of the menu and the addition of ‘Pick-Your-Pair’ and ‘Meal Deal’ initiatives, which are driving up an average check.

Expanded Off-Premise Business: The brand’s recent national relationship with DoorDash, which is intended to target this rising consumer event, is driving additional growth.

“Shop of the Future”: The platform is still being tested and polished, but it is projected to increase customer convenience, improve shop productivity and transparency, optimize sales, and more efficiently employ technology.

This strategy will appeal to potential franchisees because it is expected to lower development expenses significantly.
